Dear "colleagues in faith" :-), there is only one way to change the things with this immigration trap - we have to win the public opinion!
Currently 350,000 highly qualified professionals working for this country are in a legal limbo which continues for years. Our current legal status is that of slaves. Yes, slaves! Nowadays it takes anywhere between 5 - 10 years from applying to receiving of a GC. We cannot change our employers within this period, the members of our families cannot work (at least legally) and our spouses lose their professional carrier; if our kids get in college they are treated as "aliens" (full tuition, no student loans, no scholarship); the loans we get are with higher interest rate (for "protection"); at the borders we are treated as "intruders" etc.
The average Americans are honest hardworking people. If they are aware of the immigration problems faced by 350,000 hardworking professionals in this country, they will raise their voice and will help for resolving of this issue. They just need to know that. I believe that in addition to talking to senators etc., we have to find ways our issues to reach the media - newspapers, magazines and so on. An article in Times may lead to a lot of positive changes in the immigration system.

It means they have used 90K Visa out of 140-150K ..it means 50K visa left for next 5 month..not sure how much visa dates wlll be moved.
For calculation purpose, I think they used up 140,000 * 85% * 65% = 77,000 (approx). Look at page 3 (last but one para) "According to DOS, applicants for adjustment of status currently account for 25% of annual family-based visa allocations and 85% of annual employment-based visa allocations."

Thank you to all those who attended the first meeting! I am attaching the excel file for you to complete. I have included instructions in the file itself but let me know if you have questions. Please fill all the columns against your name.
Our next meeting will be on Thursday at 7pm PST. The tasks for our next meeting are as follows:
1) Complete the excel sheet (instructions are included).
2) Brainstorm about possible locations where we can put up a booth to register new members � someone had proposed contacting student body at UCI, we can discuss this.

Yes, it was Atlanta PERM center. I work in Delaware and all the cases go to Atlanta.
are u sure it was atlanta center? they seem to be moving but 2 day approval would be so hard to believe.... not doubting you....just my own ears..well eyes in this case cause am reading

The discrepancy is due to the fact that you are looking at visa bulletin from 2 different month. The bulletin on State department's website is for September and the one on Mumbai consulate's website is supposed to be for October.
or, he/she should have compared them yester day as they were same as of 09/10

Several exciting initiatives are underway on the healthcare front, and we also invite professionals from other fields(apart from healthcare). However, y'all must take up leadership and lead these efforts via IV as the platform!
The agenda should align with general objectives of IV, and we welcome professionals from fields. Please spread the word among the nursing/PT and other communities.
IV is not restricted to any one nationality alone!!(But, please restrict your conversations to English)

IV Core, please help members like us whose applications are pending at the Atlanta PERM Processing Center. In spite of officials informing that they will reassign their staff to process PERM applications a month back, there seems to be no progress so far. Please help us get out of this mess as our applications have been pending at this center for few months now. We would like to take this opportunity to apply for the next two stages while PD are current. By the way, I had an old case at BEC and got an approval. I just changed my job and reapplied through PERM, and then all of a sudden PD became current. I have been in this mess for 5 years now. It was just an unfortunate timing of my job change that screwed me up.
People from Chicago center have been getting quick approvals and are able to submit their I-140 & I-485 documents right away. But just because we live & work in the East coast, we are getting screwed. I don't think this is fair on part of DOL to penalize us because of our location. IV Core, please, help us.
What help can IV provide us with?

Why is everyone jumping on Dard-E-Disco?
Come on guys chill.
I have responded on this thread several times yesterday and reading through Dard-E-Disco's and everyone's comments, he's got a very valid point.
We can't just poke around an established government agency because we feel they are not doing their job properly. I am sure they are doing their job based on policies, and their policies may seem not to favor everyone.
They don't just make decisions on their own.
The structure inside USCIS could be very complex. And just like any government agency, you just cannot change things anytime.
Unfortunately, it could be affecting our lives but by voicing our concerns through proper venues like the IV forums is the way to go.
We can shout, we can scream, and join protest and forums, but that's all we can really do.
This is their country and we are guest here, and we have to respect whatever policies or laws they have because they gave us the opportunity to work and live here, and hopefully a chance to become permanent residents of this country, and in the futre become citizens.
For me, I have to thank them for this opportunity, although at times it is very frustrating.

These companies will pay the extra fees, but will change their onshore/offshore model. Will use less H1/L1 visas , but will increase the headcount of offshore operations.
So the smart senator will force more jobs to be outsourced. These jobs will never comeback once gone. If we look back at the 2000 recession, it caused a major shift in the way US companies looked at outsourcing. Pre-2000 many companies didn't believe that all jobs could be outsourced. 2000 recession forced them to think otherwise.
These kind of bills will cause a re-thinking in corporate america's thought process. They will think of creative ways to outsource. Against this senator's hopes, it will reduce jobs here.

I am not supporting this bill in anyway, I hate infy as much as I hate this bill. Remember these companies did not leave any stone unturned, milked the client every possible way and expoilted the employees to the maximum extent. In one another post - VLDRao was saying these companies does the tax filing on behalf the emoloyee, get the refund and again claim that tax in india using double taxation aoivdance treaty.
